Founder Spotlight: How StartClub_BNE and The Precinct Helped Shape Joi
Joi founder Syed Mosawi reflects on being featured by The Precinct, joining the first cohort of StartClub_BNE, and how Queensland Government support and Brisbane’s startup ecosystem helped bring Joi to life.
I was recently featured in a Founder Spotlight by The Precinct, where I had the opportunity to share my journey building Inventico and Joi, our trade mark filing platform designed to make IP more accessible for founders and businesses.
Being part of the first cohort of StartClub_BNE, supported by the Queensland Government, was a defining moment early on. At the time, Joi was still an idea in formation. The program provided structure, accountability and practical guidance when it mattered most. It helped me refine the problem we were solving, pressure test assumptions, and think more clearly about how technology could simplify something as complex as trade marks.
What stood out most about StartClub_BNE was the quality of support. The mentors were experienced, direct and genuinely invested in helping founders move forward. The program created space to think strategically, while also pushing us to execute. That balance is rare at an early stage.
I am equally grateful for The Precinct itself. Working out of The Precinct in Fortitude Valley has been invaluable. It is not just a workspace, but a true startup environment where early-stage founders are surrounded by people building, experimenting and learning in real time. The conversations, events and chance interactions all contributed to shaping how Joi evolved.
Support from initiatives like StartClub_BNE and places like The Precinct play a critical role in the startup ecosystem. They lower the barrier for founders to start, help ideas mature faster, and create communities that make the journey less isolating.
Looking back, I am thankful for the support, the people and the environment that helped turn an early concept into Joi. It has reinforced my belief that with the right ecosystem around you, ambitious ideas can move much faster and further.
